Role purpose:
To take full operational ownership of an assigned production unit, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective production while maintaining quality standards, controlling materials and stocks, developing people, implementing improvement projects and maintaining high standards of 6S and workplace discipline.
1. Core Responsibilities
| Area | Key Responsibilities |
| Production Management | Plan and coordinate daily production activities; achieve production targets; allocate machines, operators and attendants; monitor hourly/daily output; identify bottlenecks and take corrective action. |
| Quality Management | Ensure products meet specifications; drive quality at source; monitor defects, rework and rejects; ensure adherence to SOPs and quality standards; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions. |
| People Management | Lead, coach and discipline production teams; manage attendance, deployment and productivity; conduct toolbox talks; develop operators and machine attendants; identify training needs. |
| Materials & Stock Control | Control raw materials, packaging materials, WIP and finished products; minimize material losses; ensure proper stock recording and reconciliation; prevent unauthorized or excessive material usage. |
| 6S & Housekeeping | Own 6S implementation within the production unit; maintain workplace cleanliness, organization, visual management and standardization; conduct routine audits and close identified gaps. |
| Equipment & Process Management | Ensure machines are operated according to standards; monitor machine performance; escalate breakdowns; work with technical teams to improve availability and reliability; ensure proper start-up/shutdown procedures. |
| Performance Management | Monitor OEE, output, efficiency, downtime, rejects, rework, labour productivity and material losses; analyze trends and initiate corrective actions. |
| Project Implementation | Lead assigned improvement projects from implementation through sustainability; track actions, timelines and benefits; ensure projects deliver measurable operational and financial results. |
| Cost Control | Control labour, material and process costs within the unit; identify waste and productivity opportunities; support budget preparation and cost-reduction initiatives. |
| Safety | Enforce EHS requirements; ensure PPE compliance; identify unsafe conditions and behaviours; participate in incident investigations and corrective actions. |
| Documentation & Reporting | Maintain accurate production records; prepare daily/weekly reports; ensure shift handover information is complete; escalate abnormal conditions promptly. |
| Continuous Improvement | Identify waste and process losses; implement Lean/Six Sigma principles; use Pareto, 5 Why, Fishbone, SPC and other problem-solving tools where appropriate. |
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Industrial Technology, Food Science/Technology or another relevant technical discipline.
- 2–5 years' experience in manufacturing/production operations.
- Experience supervising production teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage people and achieve production targets.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and production systems.
- Good computer literacy, particularly Excel and production reporting systems.
Advantageous qualifications
- Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma training.
- ISO/QMS experience.
- Experience with OEE and production KPIs.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Experience in plastics processing, FMCG, packaging or other high-volume manufacturing.
- Experience implementing improvement projects.
